By December of 1914, the second contingent of Canadian troops was ready to be transported to England. Unlike the first contingent, which had been shipped in one large convoy, the second group was transported in individual ships over a period of three months. By May, enough men had been assembled to form the 2nd Canadian Division. It trained in England throughout the summer months and, under the command of a Canadian officer, Major-General Richard Turner, embarked for France at the beginning of September 1915.
