Surrender of the 25th German Army to the 1st Canadian Army: 5 May 1945
On 5 May 1945, Colonel-General Blaskowitz surrendered the 25th German Army to Lieutenant- General Charles Foulkes at the headquarters of the 1st Canadian Corps in the Dutch village of Wageningen. Meanwhile, German General Erick Straube signed the terms of surrender with Lieutenant- General Guy Simonds, commander of the 2nd Canadian Corps, in the German town of Zwischenahn. For the 1st Canadian Army in Europe, the war was over.
