1945
In this final year of the war, Canadian forces broke through the Siegfried Line into Germany and helped to liberate Holland before Germany surrendered. The battle in the Pacific ended in September 1945, less than one month after the United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
