Implementation Force in Bosnia-Herzegovina: 1996-1997

When the United Nations (UN) Protection Force completed its peacekeeping mission in Bosnia, the Implementation Force in Bosnia-Herzegovina (IFOR) assumed peacekeeping duties in the region. IFOR was a non-UN force conducting operation with UN approval. It consisted of North Atlantic Treaty Organization units as well as forces from eastern Europe and Russia. Canada contributed 1,035 troops to IFOR.
