HMCS Halifax: May 1988
In 1976, the Liberal government announced that six new patrol frigates would be constructed at shipyards in Saint John, New Brunswick. The first of these new frigates, HMCS Halifax, became operational in May 1988. Since 1988, the Canadian Armed Forces have added 11 more Halifax class frigates.
